Gone are the days of cheap gas. I can remember filing up for 86 cents a gallon back in the 80s. Many can remember much lower prices. My dad used to tell me about being short on cash when he was in his 20s and would pull up to the pump and just put in $2 to get by until payday. Today that same $2 won’t even get you half a gallon.

There are several factors contributing to higher gas prices. These include inflation, decreased domestic production and political factors around the world.

Regardless of the cause(s), prices are much higher and some are having difficulty filling up. Finding a way to save money on gas, even if it’s only a few pennies per gallon would help out a lot of people.

For example, if you are on the low end of Americans and drive 12 thousand miles a year and your car gets 25 miles to the gallon, you will use 480 gallons of gas per year. A 10 cent savings would save you $48 per year.

On the high end, if you drive 20 thousand miles and only get 20 miles per gallon you will use 1000 gallons. That same 10 cent savings nets you $100 per year.

You may wonder if its even possible to save 10 cents a gallon on gas. Well I have good news for you. I have been using an app called Upside and I have averaged more than this.

I started using the app in April and you can see from the screenshot how much cash back I have received (today is 7/5/22).  If this trend continues I will average $20 monthly or $240 per year. I am an above average driver in that I will travel about 20 thousand miles per year and I generally get 20 to 22 miles per gallon.

The app is very easy to use and I usually get the credit back within a couple days. In many areas there are generally a few different gas stations to pick from and the amount of cash back they offer will vary.

In addition to cash back on gas, the app has recently expanded to include some restaurants. I have not tried the restaurant offers but the app claims between 7% and 15% cash back on those offers.

If you want to try it out for yourself,  you can download it from the app store. As an added bonus for first time users you can save an addition 15 cents per gallon on your first fill up.

I hope this helps.
