Chattanooga Choo-Choo Train Station

Terminal Station, the train station for the Chattanooga Choo-Choo, was buit in 1906. It was the northern most terminal for the Southern Railway. It was also the first station to connect the north to the south allowing passengers to travel from Cincinnati through Chattanooga to Florida.

Today it is operated as a hotel. Guests can book rooms within train cars.

Walking into the restored station is like a trip back in time. You can imagine how this train station welcomed hundreds of passengers as they traveled in and out of town. 

Take a look at the photos and the stunning architecture. Some features are an arched entrance, an 82 foot ceiling, a domed roof and a skylight. 

Terminal station utilized 7 passenger platforms to access 14 tracks.

Chattanooga Choo-Choo

Walking through Terminal Station you will find an old steam locomotive which is typical of the trains which would frequent the station.

Chattanooga Choo-Choo by Glen Miller Orchestra

The term Chattanooga Choo-Choo was first coined in a newspaper article by a reporter who was decribing the sound of the train as it chugged along.

The catchy term was later used by the Glen Miller orchestra in 1941 and the song was featured in the movie Sun Valley Serenade.
